Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for managing well completion and abandonment
   • Access, interpret and apply well and rig lease documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, confirm and apply work instructions for the allocated task
   • Identify, manage and report in writing all potential hazards
   • Resolve coordination requirements with others at the site prior to commencing and during work activities
2. Organise completion schedule
   • Develop completion schedule in line with drilling contract and well prognosis
   • Review and confirm lease details, notifications are forwarded to statutory, company, owner and contractor representatives
   • Make preparations for release of rig and complete tour book records in accordance with company requirements
   • Ensure that prior to rig move, arrangements are in place for work orders and invoicing in line with contract requirements and servicing/maintenance repairs of equipment
3. Complete rig release
   • Make preparations to stack and move and communicate to all parties
   • Assess environmental plan and that drilling fluids and waste storage/disposal requirements and correct records are completed and processed
   • Prepare shutdown list in accordance with statutory/company requirements and distribute to crew for actioning
   • Rig down in accordance with statutory/company requirements and distribute to crew for actioning
   • Rig down ensuring that equipment, camp and rig are secured for removal
   • Review contract requirements, complete written records and forward to appropriate officers

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and management of well completion and rig lease operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements throughout work activities

demonstrates completion of the management of well completion and rig lease operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

developing and monitoring completion schedules in line with drilling contracts and well prognosis

preparing rig for release

coordinating rig move including:

tour book

work orders

invoicing

shutdown list

rigging down and secure ready for removal

interpreting environmental plan and make arrangements for disposal of waste

processing written records and reports

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following in Manage well completion and rig release through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures

maintaining company and statutory safety guidelines, procedures and practices

establishing and maintaining safe operating procedures for operating equipment

establishing and maintaining well completion and release procedures

maintaining safe rigging and dogging practices

identifying auxiliary equipment functions and service requirements

knowledge of the specific rig tear-out sequence

complying with road haulage regulations

knowledge and maintenance of safety and environmental issues

using communication equipment

establishing and preparing for emergency procedures

establishing and maintaining preventative maintenance

adhering to workplace relations and award conditions
